Pooling our industry’s (human) resources!
A year ago, it occurred to me that the various HR Directors in our industry didn’t know their counterparts. The next question was – could they learn from one-another? The answer has been a resounding yes.
A year later, after five fun and productive meetings, and with a list of fifty plus interested parties, we now have a flourishing Events HR Group meeting quarterly. There’s also an event scheduled for November this year that will feature various industry HR Directors discussing their specialist subjects, and suppliers presenting their wares.
The quarterly HR group meets include between twelve and fifteen HR directors / managers sharing information and experiences on auto-enrollment, employment law, psychometric testing, performance management systems, internships, retention rates and much more besides! The companies represented include Reed Exhibitions, UBM, Clarion Events, ITE Group, Tarsus, ExCeL London, The NEC, GES and Imago Techmedia amongst others.
The results are always useful and often striking, for instance the difference in scale from one company’s internship scheme to another. The discussions can help to encourage consistency across the industry within areas such as maternity policies and the group has also been involved in guiding AEO towards a review of its industry salary survey.
We’re now at full capacity for our quarterly meetings so additional space is offered on a first come, first served basis.
