AEO Conference 2018 Recap

The AEO Conference returned to Brighton on 6-7 September covering the theme ‘Technology – Artificial or Reality?’

Hailed as the definitive business networking forum for senior exhibition organisers, the two-day conference was chaired by leading technology journalist and ‘The Gadget Show’ presenter Georgie Barrat and delivered sessions highlighting how technology can transform events for both events professionals and their customers.

Keynote speaker, Stephan Jung, kicked off day one with an insightful session on mega-trends that will impact society over the next 10 years, with a particular focus on connectivity, mobility, individualism and community.

This was followed by the System Reboot session, led by key members of the Business Technology and Innovation Group (BTIG). It took a look at the power of data and discussed a blueprint event organisers could use to link their internal systems to maximise efficiency and effectiveness.

Our team was on hand to learn about all the latest developments and innovations sweeping the industry to ensure we are continually operating at the forefront of industry trends and delivering the best insight to our clients.  From technophobes to technophiles, there were sessions for everyone: using tech to adapt environments and create unique experiences, using AR imaginatively and utilising more affordable VR opportunities like Facebook spaces.

Our team enjoyed both the content and the opportunity to network

Senior Consultant, Global Executive Search – Natasha Layal
“Thoroughly enjoyed the AEO Conference this year! Networking was great and the treasure hunt offered something different; an alternative, competitive talking point. The content was attention-grabbing, and it’s always extremely interesting to get first hand tips and advice from industry experts during the panel sessions.”

Senior Consultant, Global Executive Search – Mike Frost
“Brighton as a setting is always lovely, as is seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. Personal highlights are definitely the comedy duo of Austin Hawkins and Ed Tranter on Friday morning’s panel, as well as the mountain of seafood at the Icebreaker event. The content had a good balance of relevance, fun, and new information for the delegates to digest.”

Double trouble, Lindsay and Nicki!

Have you seen the treasure hunt photos?

The interactive treasure hunt on Brighton seafront provided a great opportunity for networking – and for some very funny photos!

The conclusion drawn from the AEO Conference was that while technology demanded respect and should be embraced rather than feared it is ultimately strategy and not technology that should drive your business forward.

Looking forward to seeing you all again at next year’s event!
