Events Sales: The secret formula for a winning salesperson

tfconnect might specialise in senior events roles but we also handle events sales vacancies for some of the world’s largest exhibition organisers and venues.

While there is always a huge demand for great exhibitions salespeople – we’ve seen an influx of new sales roles this month as organisers gear up to tackle the year ahead.

We took some time out with our Events Sales Talent Specialist, Emily Drake, to talk events sales candidates and find out which ingredients go together to create a winning sales candidate in the exhibitions industry.

Events Sales Candidates who can combine sales skills with social media are really exciting

One of the things I love to hear from a sales candidate is an ability to adapt and embrace any channel necessary in order to build client relationships. An understanding of how social media can be an effective sales tool is desirable to potential employers.

Social can achieve a very personal approach in a time-effective and far-reaching way, making for better relationship building, prospect research and customer service… if you know how to use it!

Get it wrong and you’ll easily end up annoying your clients. For this reason, salespeople who have a track-record building online relationships are going to get noticed.

MultipleLanguages

Talented sales professionals who speak multiple languages have some fantastic opportunities available to them

We’ve seen an explosion in demand for multi-lingual sales talent across the conference and exhibitions sector recently. The industry is always expanding and any business running shows overseas will benefit from salespeople who can comfortably communicate with their target market.

If you’re working in sales outside the events industry and you speak multiple languages, now is a great time to capitalise on your skills by stepping into events.

Sometimes it’s just about tenacity and “Je ne sais quoi”

Standout candidates aren’t necessarily the ones with the most experience or the biggest companies on their CV.

Sometimes you can speak to a candidate for less than 30 seconds and know that they’ve got something really special just from hearing their passion and hunger to succeed!

Our fast-paced industry is a great place for these target-driven and personable individuals to thrive, as our clients really need someone to hit the ground running as soon as they join a team.

Media sales experience still takes the biscuit

In a nutshell – the perfect events sales candidate in most cases would be a confident, highly motivated sales professional with proven experience selling across B2B media platforms, such as; exhibitions, publications, conferences and delegate sales.

However, as the industry continues to grow, we’re looking at the broader media industry and beyond to exceptional sales talent that can step into the events market.
